Our Story South Sudan

African Evangelistic Enterprise South Sudan (AEESS) is registered as a Christian Interdenominational organisation with Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) with Registration No. 1852 of NGOs Act, 2006. AEESS has been involved in several evangelical and trauma healing activities since 2014 as part of Kenya National Office. Some of these activities include implementing some programs on leadership with student leaders in Universities and colleges plus helping in organising the National Prayer Breakfast at the national Parliament.

In 2021, the African Enterprise International Office, represented by the International Social Action Director, visited Juba and launched the Trauma Healing Program in schools in Juba. AEESS became a small office and continued with the established Trauma Healing programs.

During the Lusaka Mission that was held in Zambia in 2022, Sudan was declared a full national office like other African Enterprise offices.

Ever since then, African Enterprise South Sudan has been working to share God’s love through the ministry of reconciliation in South Sudan, working to evangelise the cities of South Sudan in partnership with the church.

Claimed for Christ

1963-1971

Our History

As a young South African man, just 21 years old, Michael Cassidy had a heart for his people and felt the Lord calling him to city-evangelism in Africa. During the summer of 1961, he set out on an exploratory visit to 31 major cities of Africa, a trip in which God’s vision for Michael became clear. On a long walk on the beach, Michael drew an outline of Africa in the sand and wrote “Claimed for Christ” inside it. His experience is recounted in the book African Harvest: “He wrote in his diary; ‘I asked God for 50 years of ministry in Africa.’”

Graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1963, Michael returned to South Africa with a small team and his work began. The first city-wide mission was held in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and from there the work expanded slowly across the continent. A second team was established in South Sudan in 1971 under the leadership of Bishop Festo Kivengere. Today AE has teams in twelve African countries: Ghana, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Zambia.
